Cave City, Kentucky

Cave City, Kentucky is the land of all things caves, rocks and oddly enough, dinosaurs.   Make sure to stop at Big Mike's Rock Shop and get your rock fix and of course check out the Mystery House.  That should be enough to sell you right there, but if not here is exactly what Cave City has to offer

Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave National Park is an extremely dog friendly National Park.  There are miles and miles of beautiful hiking trails and dogs are allowed on every single one of them.  The trails are also packed with wildlife!  We so tons of deer and wild turkey.  Obviously the main draw of this National Park is the expansive cave system.  This leaves the trails pretty empty, which is nice.  The caves themselves are absolutely amazing.  We did have to book a hotel for a night, so that we could leave the dogs for a couple of hours and go explore them.  We never leave them unattended in the van.  If we do have to run an errand, one of us will stay with them.  Even if the weather is perfect, it just makes us feel uneasy.  But this was something that we wanted to see together, so we felt that a hotel was warranted.  Plus a nice shower and a night of TV never hurt anybody!  Mammoth Cave was definitely worth the visit and we loved hiking the trails just as much as we enjoyed the actual cave.

Dinosaur World

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!!  It really is.  First of all it is super dog-friendly and not just like they allow them, but they welcome them with open arms.  They want to pet them and know their names and that's definitely a welcomed surprised when you are bring four dogs into a business.  The park itself is probably geared more towards children, but we love dinosaurs and roadside attractions, so we had a great time.  It was very large, with well-kept garden paths leading to each different dino exhibit.  Each exhibit is actually very well done, too.  It made for a great place to walk the pups with some great photo ops along the way.

Kentucky Stonehenge

Just a few  miles north of Cave City is a real hidden gem.  It is a complete replica of Stonehenge that a man has created in his own yard.  This is in a residential area, but they encourage visitors.  Once you start getting close to the neighborhood, you will start seeing signs for the attraction, pointing you in the right direction.  There is also a small parking area set up at the home so you can stop and take lots of pictures!  Stop, because really, why not?
