Cleveland, Ohio

Cuyahoga Valley National Park is what brought us to Cleveland, but we found fun-filled adventures all around the city.  Here's a little taste of what we did while we were there.

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

This Seems to be a little known National Park or at least underrated, but when it comes to dog-friendly places, it's pretty hard to beat.  It has over 125 miles of hiking trails, so there really is something for every one here.  The views at the ledges are hard to beat and the trail to get to this spot is very easy for pretty much any hiker.  once you get there, though you feel as if you have entered a completely different world.  Pictures do not do this place justice.  It was absolutely stunning.  Best part, it's totally free!

Squire's Castle

Just outside of Cleveland, in Willoughby Hills, lies Squire's Castle.  This is the shell of a castle built in the 1890's by Fergus B. Squire.  Today it is part of the Cleveland Metroparks System and open to the public.  This is a great place to take the dogs.  There is a huge greenspace for them to run around and stretch their legs.  They are also allowed inside the castle.  It's a really neat place to see!

Bradstreet's Landing Park

This is a small park on the shore of Lake Erie.  It is a great place to walk the dogs and look for sea glass.  When we went it was not crowded at all and the dogs loved dipping their toes in the lake.

Maria's Field of Hope

This is a sad, but beautiful stop.  We had no idea what it was, we just saw the biggest, most beautiful field of sunflowers that we had ever seen and knew we had to get to it.  When we arrived we realized that it was a garden dedicated to children that had passed away from cancer.  As you loop through the path, there are signs with children's pictures, names, ages and what type of cancer they passed away from.  It was quite moving.  What a lovely way to bring awareness and pay tribute to these young lives.

Another thing that we loved about Cleveland were the murals.  They made the city so beautiful and vibrant!  Whoopi loved them too!
